Job Description

Job description: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Social Care Manager to lead a residential care service for young people aged 14–17 years. The service supports both male and female residents, primarily those in foster care placements or young people requiring care and protection interventions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management, leadership, and operation of the residential unit, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, child-centred care in line with regulatory requirements, national standards, and organisational policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Care and Placement Plans are in place, agreed, implemented, and monitored regularly in respect of every young person placed in the centre.
  • Promote the rights and responsibilities of each young person in the centre.
  • Ensure the appropriate use of resources within the centre.
  • Consult with young people placed in the centre, their families, centre staff and external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Ensure that the maintenance and upkeep of the centre, its furniture, vehicle, and equipment.
  • Provide an on-call service for the centre and for Children’s Residential Centres on a rota basis.
  • Engage in age-appropriate play and other activities with each child/young person within the centre as required.
  • Manage the budget for the centre, in compliance with approved budgetary procedures, and to ensure that optimum benefit is achieved from available resources.
  • Manage and supervise staff in the centre.
  • Arrange the duty roster and manage the designated staff resources, ensuring that staff levels and skill mix are appropriate and within the resource allocation.
  • Participate in relevant professional development and training programmes.

  • Comply with and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, guidelines and safe professional practice and adhere to relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Participate in on-going planning and strategic development of Children’s Residential Centres.
  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of office.
  • Provide such reports, statistics to the Director of Services (or other specified person) as required
  • Have a working knowledge of the National Standards for Children’s Residential Services as they apply to the service for example National Standards for Child Protection and Care and comply with associate protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role.

Requirements

  • A recognised Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Social Care, Social Work, Applied Social Studies, or a related field.
  • Significant experience working within residential childcare services.
  • Previous management or senior leadership experience in a social care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and relevant legislation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Full Irish driving licence with a minimum of 1 year's driving experience.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland with the appropriate visa/work permit where applicable.
